Italy's national team defender Gennaro Gattuso will miss two weeks of matches due to a prolonged thigh injury and is expected to miss the first two World Cup matches in Germany.
Initially, it was thought that the defender would only miss the first match against Ghana's national team, but it seems that he will also have to miss the second match against the USA team. It is expected that the player will recover in time for the third match against the Czech Republic.
"I am very disappointed, missing two matches is simply too much for me. I'm not superstitious, but I think someone has cursed me," the disappointed footballer revealed.
"I will go to the World Cup even if I have to tie myself to the team's bus," the determined player joked.
Italy's national team coach Marcello Lippi also stated that he has no intention of replacing the player.
"He will only be replaced on the field, not in the team. Gattuso stays with us and I hope he will recover as quickly as possible," Lippi said.
Unfortunately, this is not the only loss for the Italian team - defender Gianluca Zambrotta will also miss the first match against Ghana's national team.
The only good news is that after a three-month break due to an ankle injury, defender Francesco Totti is expected to join the team.
