The star of the England national team, midfielder Steven Gerrard, and 20-year-old English prodigy Wayne Rooney participated in the team's training session on Friday before the first match against the Paraguayan team.
Gerrard, on Wednesday, announced that he evaluates his chances of playing in the first match as 50/50, as he suffered from back pain. However, at the Frankfurt stadium, where the Group B matches will begin on Saturday, he jogged a bit and kicked the ball around with his national team mates. The midfielder also did some individual work apart from the other players, and it is now believed that he will recover in time for the match.
Another good news for the England team is that Wayne Rooney participated in the training session without any problems, as journalists were allowed to watch for just 15 minutes. According to coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, Rooney may appear on the field in the group stage matches, but he will still have to miss the first match on Saturday.
It is worth noting that England is playing in Group B, where countries like Trinidad and Tobago, Sweden, and Paraguay are competing.
