The German club from Belgium has acquired defender Vincent Kompany, who will replace Daniel van Buyten in the team after his move to Munich.
It is believed that the Hamburg club paid 5.1 million pounds (over 25 million litas) for the twenty-year-old defender's transfer, thus improving the team's record of "purchases". Previously, the most expensive player in the team was Rafael van der Vaart.
"I am happy to be here. I am convinced that I made the right decision at the right time. Thomas Doll (head coach) impressed me. I believe that we will succeed and win the championship title, which we haven't won in over 20 years," says the young defender.
"We have been observing Vincent's game and progress for a long time, and we are pleased that he has agreed to join us," says the team's sports director Dietmar Beiersdorfer. "He has played excellently at both club and international levels and has all the qualities we need."
