Former player of the Spanish superclub, Johan Neeskens, will work as an assistant to the head coach of the next three seasons, Frank Rijkaard.
On Tuesday, the new member of the coaching staff of the Catalan team will be officially presented at a press conference to the gathered journalists.
The 54-year-old Dutchman replaced his compatriot Henk Ten Cate in this position, who became the head coach of Ajax in Amsterdam.
The current assistant coach of the Australian national team, Guus Hiddink, chose the Spanish champions' team after declining the opportunity to take over the mentioned national team.
Johannes Jacobus Neeskens, who played for Barcelona from 1974 to 1979, played 183 matches and scored 44 goals in the Spanish championship and various European tournaments.
Later, the Dutchman went to play in the USA, and ended his professional football career in 1985, representing the team of FC Groningen.
J. Neeskens began his coaching career in 1996, when he became one of the strategists of the Dutch national team. At that time, the national team of the "Tulips" was led by G. Hiddink, and the team's staff also included the current Barcelona strategist, F. Rijkaard.
In 1998, when F. Rijkaard took over the reins of the Dutch national team, J. Neeskens officially became his assistant, and from 2000 to 2004, he began coaching the NEC Nijmegen club.
After rejecting the position of head coach of the Australian football team, J. Neeskens returns to Camp Nou after a 27-year hiatus, and should join the team immediately after the World Cup in Germany.
It is worth noting that Eusebio and Juan Carlos Unzue also work as coaches at Barcelona, and J. Neeskens, who played in the former "Barca" along with Quique Costas, trains the young talents of the Catalan club together with them.
