On Tuesday in the Lithuanian "A lyga" championship, during the fourteenth round match against "Vilniumi," Panevezys' "Ekranas" team was without goalkeeper Mantas Saveinas. This happened because the best player of last season in Lithuania is participating in a trial at the "Moskva" club in the Russian capital.
"M. Saveinas went for the trial on June 11th and will return on June 19th. The representatives of the Russian club know him, they saw him. Mantas himself wanted to show himself to the Muscovites," said the head coach of the "Ekranas" team Virginijus Liubšys on the alyga.lt website.
When asked if it won't be sad to say goodbye to the team's captain, the "Ekranas" coach replied: "Of course, it would be very sad. I would like him to stay in the team. I hope M. Saveinas will return to the team. Mantas is not in as good shape as last season."
In 2005, M. Saveinas scored 27 goals in the Lithuanian "A lyga" championship and became the top scorer of the league. This year, the "Ekranas" captain has scored against goalkeepers six times, but the start of the season for him and the team was not very successful - the defending champions from Panevezys are already behind the league leader "Kaunas" club by 14 points.
