Portugal and club security guard Armando Petitas admitted that he received an offer from a club that would like to see a Portuguese in their squad next season.
"Yes, it's true, Manchester United offered me a contract," admitted A. Petitas, who played 35 matches for the Portuguese national team and managed to score 4 goals.
The 29-year-old player, who participated in the World Cup opening match against Angola, still has a four-year contract with Benfica. The latter eliminated the famous English team from the Champions League group stage last season.
According to Petitas, Benfica allowed him to talk to other clubs: "Not everyone is destined to defend the honor of the Red Devils. If the offer satisfies me and Benfica, I will leave Portugal."
Last week, Manchester United club tried to attract Tottenham's defender Michael Carrick, but the leaders of the London club rejected their proposed 10 million pounds sterling offer.
