After winning the match against Costa Rica, Ecuador's national team coach Luis Fernando Suarez is determined to take the first place in the group. In the match against the Germans, a draw would be enough for them and with a better goal difference, they would become the winners of Group A.
"We aim to finish the first stage as the best team, do the same in the second stage, and continue to improve results as much as possible," confidently stated the coach.
The group winners will play against the second team of Group B. The most realistic candidates to take the first place in this group are the English footballers. Making it to the second stage of the World Cup for the first time, the Ecuadorians are determined to achieve a lot.
"We haven't achieved anything yet and we want to go as far as we can," said Ecuador's forward Carlos Tenorio while looking into the future.
Costa Rica's strategist Alexandre Guimaraes blames his team's missed opportunities.
"The game is such that when you don't take advantage of your chances, the other team shows no mercy. That was the story of our team in two matches," Guimaraes said after the match.
Forward Paolo Wanchope said that this tournament is the most disappointing in the team's history: "Out of the three World Cups we played in, this was the worst. Now we have to pick ourselves up and keep working."
"We had to try to score goals, but we couldn't do it," Wanchope said disappointedly.
In the last match, Costa Rica will face Poland, for whom this championship will also end with group stage matches.
