Round 15: "Atlantas" clashes with "Ekranas" © EuroFootball.com

In the Lithuanian "A League" championship, the 15th round matches were played on Friday, quite differently from the previous round matches taking place quite productively. "Atlantas" continued their successful streak by defeating the "Ekranas" team at the end of the match and moving up in the tournament table, while the leader "Kaunas" crushed "Šilutė" and further increased their lead. "Žalgiris" had to admit defeat to "Šiauliai" in a thriller, one match ended in a draw, while the "Vėtra" match was postponed due to the club's participation in the Intertoto Cup.

In the battle for the second position in Klaipėda, "Atlantas" met the defending champions "Ekranas" from Panevėžys, who still did not have their team captain Mantas Savėnas. Without their leader, the Panevėžys team failed to break through the opponent's defense and conceded a goal in the 71st minute when Valdas Trakys scored, and in the nervy final minutes of the match, Gediminas Paulauskas received a red card, leaving his team with ten players. The victory for "Atlantas" was sealed with a penalty kick by Maksimas Morozovas during added time.

Following the defeat of "Ekranas," the "Kaunas" team once again took advantage, crushing the underdog "Šilutė" by 6-1 after scoring four goals in the last 20 minutes of the match. The winners were led by Gvidas Juška, who scored three goals, while the Polish legionnaire Arkadiusz Klimek found the net twice, and Artūras Rimkevičius, loaned from "Kaunas" to "Šilutė," scored a consolation goal.

The exciting match took place in Vilnius, where "Žalgiris" hosted "Šiauliai." The guests took the lead already in the 4th minute after Victor Afanasenko's goal, and at the beginning of the second half, Ilja Galiūza doubled the score. However, the hosts did not give up, and goals from Eimantas Poderis and Gerdas Aleksa in the 75th and 81st minutes respectively managed to equalize the score. Nevertheless, four minutes before the end of the match, Gediminas Butavičius secured the victory for "Šiauliai."

The match in Marijampolė between neighboring teams in the tournament table, "Sūduva" and "Vilnius," ended in a draw. Senegalese Christian Sagna put "Sūduva" ahead in the 42nd minute, but in the middle of the second half, Brazilian Rinaldo equalized the score, and the teams had to settle for a point each.
