England's national team and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand should recover by Sunday's upcoming round of 16 match against Ecuador.
The 27-year-old central defender suffered an injury in the match against Sweden just eleven minutes into the second half and was replaced by Sol Campbell.
"I don't think it's a very serious injury," said the team's coach, Sven-Goran Eriksson, about his defender's health. "We hope everything will be fine. He has a minor groin injury that he suffered in the second half. He will need to treat it, but we wouldn't want to risk it if the consequences of the injury worsened."
After more detailed tests, it turned out that there are no major problems and R. Ferdinand will probably be ready for the next match. England's national team has already lost Newcastle striker Michael Owen for several months, and Manchester United defender Gary Neville is struggling with calf pain.
