After the end of the third round match in Group D between Iran and Angola, Asian coach Branko Ivankovič was not satisfied and lamented that his team deserved a win.
"Throughout the match we felt like we could win. Luck was not on our side, we created more chances than Angola and we deserved to win. To be honest, fortune has not been on our side in this championship, I believe we deserved a point against Mexico, and in this match - a victory," he said.
The team's leader Mehdi Mahdavikia agreed with the coach: "Although we knew before the match that we would not advance to the next stage, we really wanted to win this match. We were definitely better. We created more chances, but unfortunately, we couldn't convert them. It's very disappointing to finish the championship with just one point."
Meanwhile, the Angolan coach was in a good mood: "Our team did not demonstrate good football in today's match. When we scored a goal, I thought we could win the game, but we couldn't score more."
"Congratulations to Portugal and Mexico for advancing to the next stage. Undoubtedly, they are the strongest teams in our group. I am very proud of my team's performance in the championship, we can leave Germany with our heads held high," he said.
The scorer of Angola's first goal, Amado Flavio, was also satisfied: "I am glad to be the first player from the Angolan national team to score a goal in the World Cup."
