Italian vice-champion club has confirmed about the acquisition of the young French star Yoann Gourcuff. The attacking midfielder, who is believed to have cost around 4 million euros for AC Milan, signed a five-year contract with the Italian giant.
Having excelled in the "Rennes" team in the "Ligue 1" championship, Y. Gourcuff became the youngest footballer in France to win the best player of the month award in March, immediately attracting the attention of famous clubs.
Many European teams wanted to acquire the player representing the French youth national team. London's Arsenal wanted him to defend the "Gunners" honor, but the player refused and accepted the contract offered by the Italian giants, Milan.
"In my mind, Milan," Yohann Gourcuff said in an interview with a newspaper. "I cut ties with the 'Rennes' team. Throughout the season, they ignored my agent's requests. Milan, Arsenal, and several other French clubs showed interest in me. I knew that Wenger likes to invest in young players. My agent talked to him, although I myself went to the Milan headquarters. Here, I realized that players have the opportunity to show what they do best. I chose Milan."
On Thursday, "Rennes" officially announced that a full agreement had been reached with the Italian club, and the 19-year-old player, who represented the team 36 times this season, will not be loaned out but sold outright.
"Rennes" and "Milan" clubs have already reached an agreement, so the midfielder officially belongs to the Italian club," said the French club's press representative on the "Rennes" website.
Last season, Milan finished in 2nd place, only losing to their eternal rival Turin's Juventus, while "Rennes," who recently acquired Daniel Moreira from the "Toulouse" team, finished in 7th place last season and will participate in the UEFA Cup next year.
