Madrid's head coach Javier Aguirre expressed interest in Bremen and the German national team's midfielder Tim Borowski.
The 26-year-old midfielder, who is currently representing the German national team at the World Cup, recently confirmed that Atletico's coach is interested in his skills. Aguirre will now observe Werder Bremen's player and then decide if the club needs this player.
"T. Borowski is a player that I need," the coach said. "He is one of the players that I need to complete the team's roster by June. I don't need a midfielder who organizes attacks, but I need someone similar to a German, who can help that playmaker."
Last season, Atletico Madrid finished in 10th place in the Spanish league, while Werder Bremen finished in 2nd place and will participate in the Champions League next season.
Meanwhile, another Spanish club has also shown interest and started negotiations with Alkmaar and the Dutch national team's midfielder Denny Landzaat. The 30-year-old player, who has spent a large part of his career in his homeland and is currently helping the Dutch national team at the World Cup, wants to test his skills in Spain.
It is reported that Espanyol is ready to pay about 3.5 million euros for Landzaat to AZ Alkmaar.
Landzaat still has a one-year contract with AZ, but Espanyol's director Paco Herrera is convinced that the midfielder will leave the Dutch club and come to Spain.
"He is a player that we are very interested in," Herrera told the newspaper El Mundo Deportivo. "We are completely confident that the deal will happen."
Last season, AZ Alkmaar finished in 2nd place in the Dutch league, but did not secure a spot in the Champions League, while Espanyol finished in 15th place.
