The forward of the Ukrainian national team and Bayer Leverkusen club, Andriy Voronin, will miss the remaining part of the World Cup due to a knee injury suffered during the round of 16 match against Switzerland.
However, the 26-year-old player will not leave his teammates, as he will help the team prepare for the quarter-final match against Italy, which will take place on Friday, June 31, in the city of Hamburg.
"Andriy is very disappointed because he won't be able to help the team further in this tournament," said Ukrainian representative Igor Myroshnychenko.
A.Voronin started all four Ukrainian national team matches in the starting lineup.
The Ukrainian team reached the quarter-finals and managed to beat the Swiss team in Cologne after a penalty shootout, but Voronin was substituted 10 minutes before the end of extra time.
Coached by Oleg Blokhin, Ukraine made its debut in the World Cup with a painful 4-0 loss to the Spanish team in the first match, but a successful second match against Saudi Arabia with a 4-0 result gave Ukraine hope of advancing to the next stage of the competition. In the decisive third match, Ukraine managed to overcome Tunisia after a tough battle to secure a place among the strongest 16 teams.
