Former Serbian and Montenegrin national team defender Dejan Stefanovic has signed a new contract with an English club, where he will play until June 2008. The 31-year-old "Pompey" and former captain of the Serbian and Montenegrin national team arrived at the club in 2003 from the "Vitesse" team in Arnhem. "There were many speculations that I was preparing to leave the team, but I always said that I would stay in the club. This is proof that I will be in the club for a long time, I am very happy about that. Everyone knows that I love this club," Stefanovic officially told the "Portsmouth" website. Stefanovic revealed that one of the reasons he would like to wear the "Portsmouth" team's jersey is the head coach Harry Redknapp. "I don't want to move to another country or club because I am very well settled here and I stay here because of Harry and all the other people," added the player. After narrowly avoiding relegation last season in the English league, "Portsmouth" will try to finish among the strongest 10 teams this season, as the club was acquired by businessman from Russia Alexandre Gaydamak, who has already started investing in new players.
