The defender of the Spanish national team Marcos Senna expressed his desire to sign a new contract with the club, but there are possibilities that he may represent another team next season.

It is reported that Sir Alex Ferguson liked the game demonstrated by the 29-year-old defender when "Man Utd" faced "Villarreal" in the UEFA Champions League.

Born in Brazil, Senna participated in this year's World Cup with the Spanish national team, saying he is honored to be a target for the "Premier" league giant, but also stating he doesn't know if the "Red Devils" tried to acquire him.

The "Villarreal" team wants to keep him, and Senna is satisfied with the "yellow submarines" and would like to extend his contract with the club, which currently has a year left.

"No one from Manchester has spoken to me; I only know these rumors," M. Senna told the newspaper "El Periodico Mediterraneo." "It's very flattering that such a club is interested in me, but if someone wants something similar, they need to communicate directly with the 'Villarreal' management; I am not the right person to discuss this with."

"I am very happy in the 'Villarreal' team and I want to continue my career here. My agent is currently negotiating, and I would like to stay with the club for another four years," added the player.

Last season, the "Villarreal" team performed very successfully in the UEFA Champions League, reaching the semifinals, where they lost to the "Arsenal" team. In the Spanish league, the "yellow submarines" finished in 7th place and did not secure a place to participate again in the most prestigious European tournament next year.

The "Man Utd" team is unlikely to add a defender - according to French champions head coach Gerard Houllier, there is very little chance that the player will move to the English club this summer.

The combative defender has long been a target for "Man Utd" as the club continues the search for Roy Keane's replacement. Although Michael Carrick also aspires to this vacant position, it is believed that Ser Alex Ferguson prefers the defender of the Mali national team.

M. Diarra has already proven to be one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe, and after an excellent performance in the UEFA Champions League, many top clubs have shown interest. It is believed that the Madrid "Real" club is also vying for the player's signature, but the president of "Lyon" in France, G. Houllier, is skeptical about the possibility of the defender moving to "Man Utd."

"I don't think M. Diarra will move to 'United'," the coach told "The Guardian." "We hope that Mahamadou will stay in the club, and I don't see him playing in the English 'Premier League'."
