England's national team and Chelsea's defender Frank Lampard, on Friday, having overcome pain in his injured ankle, started training with all his teammates and will be able to play in the quarterfinal match against Portugal.
F.Lampard sustained an injury during a closed England training session on Thursday in Buhlertare, where the team was preparing for the quarterfinal match taking place in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday.
"He injured his ankle in yesterday's training session," said a representative of the Football Association on Friday. "But I spoke to Frank this morning, he feels great and hopes to train again."
Lampard already trained at the Gelsenkirchen stadium on Friday, and coach Sven-Goran Eriksson confirmed that the player is recovered: "He is in good shape, 100%, no concerns - he will appear on the field."
Although the defender has not yet stood out in this World Cup, S.G.Eriksson plans to deploy a line of five defenders on the field, including one of the team's main attacking players F.Lampard.
The 28-year-old player, who last season played for Chelsea, managed to score 20 times and won the Premier League for the second time in a row. Before the start of the World Cup, F.Lampard had played 22 times for the national team and scored 10 goals.
