From the Brazilian national team leaves the defender of the Madrid team Roberto Carlos - a player who has represented his country's national team for thirteen years announced his decision two days after losing to France in the World Cup quarterfinals.

The 33-year-old left-back had previously said that he was ready to play for Brazil for a few more seasons, but unable to help his team avoid defeat against the French, he followed Juninho's example and announced his retirement.

"I have finished with the national team. Those were my last matches with the team," said R. Carlos about the lost match number 132.

Throughout his career, R. Carlos played 132 matches for "Selecao" and scored 11 goals, one of which became legendary - a penalty kick scored with an incredible trajectory from about 30 meters in a friendly match against France in June 1997.

Making his debut in the national team in 1993, the defender did not make it to the squad for the 1994 World Cup. In the 1998 World Cup final, together with the Brazilians, he lost to the host France, and in the tournament final in Japan and Korea in 2002, they defeated Germany and finally became World Champions. Along with the national team, R. Carlos also won the Confederations Cup in 1997, Copa America in 1997 and 1999, and a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympic Games.
