In France, next season teams will compete not only for the title of champions, but also for the title of the best attacking team. In order to encourage French clubs to score more goals in the country from the next season, alongside the standard points calculation system, the "Challenge de l'offensive" competition will start, where 2 points will be awarded for a win by one goal difference, and 3 points for a win by a larger difference.
The teams that finish highest in this competition will share a prize fund of 20 million euros. For comparison, the champions of "Ligue 1" receive 2.4 million euros for this achievement.
This system was devised by former French national team coach Michel Hidalgo. It is hoped that this will increase the number of goals in the "Ligue 1" and "Ligue 2" championships, as in the last season in the top division of French football, only an average of 2.2 goals were scored per game, while in England, Italy, or Spain there were around 2.5 goals scored, and in Germany almost 3 goals per game.
French football authorities also announced that from next season the format of the French League Cup tournament will change slightly. The teams that have qualified for the UEFA Champions League will not start this tournament from the early stages, but will be immediately included among the 32 strongest cup teams. The schedule of the tournament will also change slightly - the quarter-final matches will be played before the winter break next season.
