Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is leaving - the team's head coach Gareth Southgate has decided not to offer a contract extension to the 34-year-old striker whose contract has already expired.

"I spoke to Jimmy and told him that his contract will not be extended," said the new Middlesbrough strategist. "Of course, he was disappointed, but I have no doubt that he will receive a new challenge.

"It was very difficult to make this decision because the striker did his job well. In this job, you have to make such decisions, but I have to try to do everything that is necessary for the club.

"J.F. Hasselbaink is a good player who will score goals for another team. Now, Middlesbrough has a good choice in the attacking line, so I think it is most important now to strengthen other positions."

The striker started his career in his home country's team Telstar. Later, he has played for Alkmaar AZ, Campomaiorense, Porto's Boavista, Leeds United, Madrid's Atletico, and the London team Chelsea before joining Middlesbrough in 2004.

Last season in the English championship, the footballer scored 10 goals, and in the UEFA Cup, he scored 4 times.

In June, the experienced striker caught the attention of the Glasgow Celtic team.
