Former interim England national team manager Peter Taylor stated that he supports the idea of John Terry taking over the role of national team captain from David Beckham.
England football star D. Beckham, who stepped down from the captaincy role on Saturday, was also suggested by P. Taylor for this position back in November 2000.
"Terry is an obvious choice," explained England youth team and "Crystal Palace" club strategist.
P. Taylor believes that "Liverpool" defender Steve Gerrard and "Manchester United" defender Rio Ferdinand are two other realistic candidates.
Frank Lampard also supports Terry's candidacy: "He is a leader in the Chelsea team and a great player for the England national team. He helps those around him and has a strong character, meaning he focuses not only on himself but on everything that benefits the team."
Defender Jamie Carragher believes that "Liverpool" club defender Steven Gerrard would be a good fit for this role: "You see how well Steven Gerrard plays the captain's role at Liverpool - I wish it would be him. If you look back at the past when he played in Cardiff in the final of the English Cup and in Istanbul in the Champions League final, you would say there are not many players around who are more inspiring than him."
Bookmakers consider J. Terry the most realistic candidate to replace D. Beckham, and they also give similar chances to S. Gerrard.
