At the age of 74, after 30 years of suffering from Parkinson's disease, one of the most famous Swedish footballers Orvar Bergmark passed away yesterday.
The best years of this right-back player were in 1958. In that year, Sweden finished second in the FIFA World Cup, losing only to Brazil in the final. Bergmark played in all matches, was selected for the best players of the championship team. In the same year, the player was also named the best Swedish footballer.
Bergmark ended his career in the national team in 1965, playing a total of 94 matches. Based on this fact, the player ranks 5th among all Swedish footballers to have ever played for Sweden. Bergmark ended his career as a player after three years in Italy, playing for a club.
Since 1966, Bergmark coached the Swedish national team, participated in the FIFA World Cup in 1970, and in 2003, Bergmark was inducted into the Swedish Football Hall of Fame.
