Last season, the director of the team finishing in third place in the Bundesliga, Dietmar Beiersdorfer, publicly announced the club's interest in acquiring striker Milan Baroš.
Birmingham's Aston Villa confirmed that the German club Hamburger has made a preliminary offer to buy the Czech player. The club also added that the player's agent told them that M. Baroš does not seek to leave the midlands English club.
"Milan has a two-year contract with the club, and his agent assured us that he is happy at Villa and does not want to leave," said Aston Villa president Doug Ellis.
However, club coach David O'Leary told D. Ellis that if he wants to renew the team, he will have to sell players, and the departure of M. Baroš would bring a significant amount to the club.
The club bought the Czech player for 7 million pounds from another English club, Liverpool. M. Baroš was the top striker in the team last season and scored 12 goals.
At the World Cup, the Czech player only played one match for the national team due to an injury. It is believed that his current value is around 8 million pounds.
