As expected, leaving scandal-ridden Turin, experienced specialist from Italy Fabio Capello was officially appointed to the position of head coach in Madrid. One of the most famous European strategists signed a three-year contract with the Royal Club and will be officially presented to the media in the Spanish capital on Thursday afternoon.
60-year-old F. Capello said goodbye to "Juventus" on Tuesday, a club facing relegation to the third-tier "Serie C" league, and accepted the offer from newly elected "Real" president Ramon Calderon to return to Madrid, where he won the Spanish championship with the team in the 1996/97 season.
"Capello is a winner, and that is very important for this club, which has not won any titles for three years. He will ensure discipline, preparation, and planning - things that this club has been lacking in recent years," said R. Calderon.
Capello began his coaching career at AC Milan, where he won the Italian championship four times and the UEFA Champions League. He then had a successful season with Real and briefly returned to Milan before taking over AS Roma in 1999.
With Roma, F. Capello managed to win the Italian league after two years, but in 2004, the coach controversially joined rival Juventus and helped the team win the national championship for two years. However, the club may lose these titles due to a corruption scandal, and unwilling to compete in a lower league, the strategist decided to step down.
