Former Italian national team striker Christian Vieri has decided to return to his homeland - an experienced player was acquired by Genoa from a French club for an undisclosed sum. The footballer signed a one-year contract with his new club.
Due to a knee injury that prevented him from participating in the 2006 World Cup, the 32-year-old striker, whose father Roberto also played for "Sampdoria," agreed last month with the club's director Beppe Marotta to reduce his salary and finally officially joined the club on Thursday.
In January, C. Vieri left the "Milan" club and moved to France to play for "Monaco" hoping to earn a place in the Italian national team at the World Cup, but such hopes were shattered by the knee injury he suffered, despite scoring 22 goals in 43 games for the "Squadra Azzura".
Throughout his career, the footballer born in Australia has represented as many as 11 clubs - starting with "Torino," "Pisa," "Ravenna," "Venezia," he made his debut in the "Serie A" in 1995 playing for "Atalanta." He later won several titles with Turin's "Juventus," Madrid's "Atletico," and Rome's "Lazio," but failed to do so during the six seasons spent in Milano's "Inter" team. In the summer of 2005, the striker unexpectedly moved to the opposite side of Milan and signed a contract with "Milan" but did not establish himself in this team.
