The first player to leave the scandal-ridden Turin club became Romanian national team striker Adrian Mutu, whom despite the threat of being relegated to a lower league, was poached by the club. His place in the Juventus team will be taken by Bulgarian striker Valeri Bojinov.
For several weeks, it has been rumored that Fiorentina wants to acquire the 27-year-old Juventus player, and they promise to offer money and Valeri Bojinov for him, although on Saturday the Florence club initially officially announced only the acquisition of A. Mutu, later it was revealed that V. Bojinov is on loan to Juventus with the option to buy half of his rights.
A. Mutu will reunite with coach Cesare Prandelli at Fiorentina, who helped him shine at Parma in the 2002/03 season. Later, the Romanian became one of the first players bought by the Chelsea club in London, owned by billionaire Roman Abramovich, however, in October 2004, the doping test of the cocaine-consuming footballer was positive, and he was dismissed from the team in the capital of England. Despite receiving a seven-month ban, he signed a five-year contract with Juventus in January last year.
The 20-year-old V. Bojinov also changed clubs in early 2005 - Fiorentina bought him from Lecce for 13 million euros. However, the talented forward did not live up to the expectations placed on him and did not show the same level of play as he did at Lecce. Last season, in 27 appearances for the Florence team, the Bulgarian scored six goals.
Along with the transfers of these players, Fiorentina also announced that they had signed a 23-year-old goalkeeper on loan with an option to buy after the season and acquired a 22-year-old defender Alessandro Potenza, who was loaned to Mallorca last season, from the club.
