Australian national team striker Harry Kewell will not be able to help Liverpool at the beginning of the season due to a foot surgery.
"Harry is currently being treated in the hospital and undergoing surgical procedures. He hopes to recover and should be able to train again in approximately six weeks," said a club spokesperson on Friday.
H. Kewell participated in this year's World Cup and helped the Australian national team reach the round of 16. There, the "Socceroos" lost to the Italian national team with a score of 0-1, and the 27-year-old Liverpool player could not help the team in previous championship matches.
The FA Cup winners, Liverpool, will play their first match of the season on August 13 in Cardiff, against last year's Premier League champions, Chelsea, for the Community Shield.
Liverpool's first league match of the season will be on August 20 against the newly promoted Sheffield United, who finished second in the lower division "Championship" last season and thus qualified for the English Premier League.
