Former Netherlands national team and club forward Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will represent another Premier League club next season - the team's management officially announced on Tuesday.
The 34-year-old footballer spent last season with the UEFA Cup finalist Middlesbrough, but after the season ended, the new team coach Gareth Southgate decided to waive the services of the striker and not renew his contract.
"Jimmy is a true fighter and I believe he will help our team," said Charlton manager Iain Dowie.
"Many clubs wanted this footballer, but we were lucky to win this battle and now we are very pleased with it."
"As soon as he arrived at our team, Jimmy was impressed by the ambition and thirst for victories of our guys. He did not hide his desire to join the team's training sessions as soon as possible and start preparing for the upcoming season."
"He is a true leader not only on the field, but also beyond it. Just the fact that he represented the Netherlands national team says a lot. And if we look at the number of goals he scored, we immediately understand that he is a world-class player," praised Dowie his new protege.
Hasselbaink started his career in his homeland's team "Telstar." Later he has worn the jerseys of Alkmaar AZ, "Campomaiorense", Porto Boavista, "Leeds United", and Madrid Atletico. The Dutchman arrived at "Middlesbrough" in 2004, after spending 4 years with London's "Chelsea" team.
