Argentinian national team defender decided to stay in Spain and extended his contract with Vigo until 2009.
Last summer, the 29-year-old defender arrived at the Spanish club from Bayer Leverkusen and quickly became a key player in the Celta team.
His contract was valid until 2007, and fearing that foreign clubs might outbid the player, Celta wanted D. Placente to stay at the club for a longer period. After several weeks of negotiations, the contract with the defender was extended until 2009.
"Now, I am satisfied and calm, an interesting season is ahead. I return to play in the UEFA Cup tournament and it's a great challenge for me," said D. Placente.
Vigo's coach Fernando Vasquez was pleased that the player decided to tie his future to the club.
"Placente is a player who is very important to our game plan," said F. Vasquez.
Last season, Vigo's Celta made a surprise in the Spanish championship, finishing 5th and securing a spot in next year's UEFA Cup competition.
