For the past few years, the defender who has been a part of the "Kaunas" club will continue his career in Ukraine - the Lithuanian joined four compatriots at the Simferopol club, with whom he signed a three-year contract.
26-year-old I. Zelmikas has been participating in the trials at "Tavria" for a couple of weeks and on Monday, in a friendly match against the "Kharkov" club, he scored the first goal for his team. The Lithuanian made a good impression on the club's management and coaches and after negotiations with "Kaunas" regarding the buyout, the player signed a contract with "Tavria" valid until 2009.
At the beginning of his career in Lithuania, I. Zelmikas represented the Kaunas "Inkaras", Vilnius "Žalgiris", and Šiauliai "Kareda" clubs. In 2002 and 2003, he became a national champion with the "Kaunas" team, later he was loaned to "Šilutė" for a season and then returned to the Kaunas team. In the "Tavria" team, he will be the fifth Lithuanian - there are already defenders Audrius Veikutis, Darius Žutautas, midfielder Andrius Jokšas, and forward Nerijus Vasiliauskas playing in the Ukrainian club.
