Despite numerous rumors about a possible transfer of the French national team and London defender William Gallas to another team, now everything seems to indicate that the player will wear the jersey of a London club next season.
These rumors spread after "Chelsea" team's sporting director Peter Kenyon had a meeting with the player's agent and, allegedly, agreed on the details of a new long-term contract.
This news was likely not well received by the leaders of the Italian club "Milan," who had previously announced that they had already agreed on all the contract details with Gallas and now are just waiting for "Chelsea" to allow their defender to leave.
Despite the likelihood that Gallas will stay in the team, "Chelsea" coach Jose Mourinho is not opposed to the idea of having the Brazilian national team and Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos in his squad next season.
If the club still fails to acquire this footballer, then the team strategist has another player in mind - the current representative of France, Eric Abidal.
French national team member Abidal drew the attention of many top European clubs with his solid performance in the World Cup, so in order to acquire this player, "Chelsea" will have to compete with teams like "Real" or "Barcelona."
It is believed that much will depend on Roberto Carlos' decision on where to play next season. If the Brazilian decides to stay at "Real," then Abidal will become the main target for "Chelsea," otherwise the Frenchman will probably move to Madrid to take Carlos' place.
Despite the strong interest of major clubs in Abidal, "Lyon" has not given up hope of keeping the player in their team. The club officials claim that they are ready to offer their defender a very attractive contract, comparable to offers from "Chelsea" or "Real," so it is quite possible that the Frenchman will compete in the "Ligue 1" championship for his home country next season.
