After the end of the World Cup, saugas Claude Makelele announced his retirement from the national French team, and many football specialists were almost certain that another veteran defender Lilian Thuram would also leave the national team.
However, the 34-year-old player himself stated that he is not in a hurry to make a decision and it is quite possible that, urged by the fans, he will represent the French team for at least the next few years.
"I still don't know what I will do next, but recently I have received so much support from the team's fans, so it would be very difficult to leave them now," Thuram said.
"I know that many people want me to stay, but now I need some time to think and I think that by autumn I will have made a final decision."
The player also hinted that he is not sure about his future at Juventus, a club that faces relegation to Serie B or even Serie C due to involvement in a football scandal.
"Now the most important thing is to wait and see what the officials investigating the scandal will decide. However, if the club is relegated to a lower division, it will be very difficult for them to retain the current team players," Thuram said.
Having played 121 matches for the French national team during his career, the defender retired from the team after the 2004 European Championships, but last year, along with Zidane and Makelele, decided to return and help the team in the World Cup.
