The coach of the Portuguese national team, Luiz Felipe Scolari, has extended his contract with the country's federation and will lead the national team until 2008.
Born in Brazil, the strategist achieved 4th place with Portugal in this year's World Cup. This is the best result achieved by the Portuguese in the last 40 years, since the 1966 World Cup in England where Portugal won the bronze medal.
Despite speculation that he would return to lead the Brazilian national team again, the coach extended his contract for another two years. This means that Scolari, who rejected an offer to coach the English national team in April, will try to help the Portuguese national team successfully qualify and reach the final tournament of the 2008 European Championship, which will take place in Switzerland and Austria.
Previously, the contract of the 57-year-old strategist with Portugal was valid until July 31 of this year. As a representative of the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) stated, he offered the coach the chance to once again coach Brazil, which triumphed in the 2002 World Cup under the guidance of L.F. Scolari.
However, the famous coach chose to remain in Europe with his family, as he has been living here since December 2002 when he started working with the Portuguese national team.
