The Spanish team will be supplemented by the Argentine goalkeeper. This information was announced by "La Liga" club president Angel Torres.
"Everything is finalized and we hope that 'El Pato' (Abbondanzieri known as 'antinas' - ed.note) will arrive for a medical examination on Tuesday," said Torres.
The Argentine media reported that "Getafe" is willing to pay about 1.5 million euros to the 33-year-old former national team goalkeeper who played in the World Cup.
"Now it's time for me to move to Europe. I spoke with my teammates at the World Cup and they all suggested I play in 'La Liga.' I want to show that I am not just a player who can compete in the Argentine league, and 'Getafe' is the right team to demonstrate that," said Abbondanzieri to the media in his homeland.
Since joining "Boca Juniors" in 1997, R.Abbondanzieri has won the "Libertadores" Cup three times and the Club World Cup twice. In 2003, he was named the South American Goalkeeper of the Year.
During the last season, the "Getafe" club, which finished ninth in the Spanish championship and is coached by Bernd Schuster, also signed a five-year contract with 19-year-old Uruguayan Juan Albin, who represented "Nacional." The young player, who can play as a fullback or forward, scored 14 goals last season in the Uruguayan champions.
"Albin is one of the biggest talents in South American football. He is a technical and versatile player," said the club's sports director Santiago Llorente.
