The German club would like to see experienced Dutch forward Patrick Kluivert among their ranks.
The 30-year-old player has been looking for a new club since finding out he could leave Valencia, where he played for just one year.
Kluivert did not show good form in Valencia and had injury problems, leading the Spanish club to eventually part ways with the former Barcelona forward.
Hamburger, preparing for the new season, is looking for a new forward on the player market and was linked to Aston Villa's attacking leader Milan Baroš, but their efforts to acquire the Czech international forward were in vain, so now the German club will focus mainly on P. Kluivert.
Hamburger's coach Thomas Dollas and sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer have stated that they have already been in touch with the player and will try to lure him to Germany.
The past season was successful for Hamburg's team - they finished 3rd in the Bundesliga and qualified for the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds.
