On Thursday, Real Madrid head coach Fabio Capello announced that the club is aiming to acquire three more new players. As we already know, on Wednesday, two Juventus footballers - Brazilian national team goalkeeper Emerson and World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro joined the team in the Spanish capital.
"We have five goals. Two have already been achieved and we will see how it goes with the others. There is no need to rush," Capello said at a press conference in Austria, where the club's training camp is taking place.
The Real club did not disclose how much was paid for yesterday's acquisitions, but the Spanish media reports suggest it was around 20 million euros.
"Emerson and Cannavaro have experience and skill, they can compete, and their age is not a problem. A good player can play properly until he turns 35," said the Real Madrid coach. "They will be key figures at Real, and first and foremost, they are team players. The most important thing we had to do was to acquire a defender and a goalkeeper, and that has now been done."
When asked if Gianluca Zambrotta will also move to Real, former Juventus coach F. Capello admitted that the player is most likely going to join the main rival team, Barcelona, and refused to reveal who could be the new signings for the Madrid club.
"Zambrotta is not in our plans. He is a great player, but Barcelona has already reached an agreement with him. We are calm because we have Roberto Carlos and we will see if we can get another player," Capello continued.
According to the Spanish media, Barcelona agreed with Juventus on the release of G.Zambrotta and Lilian Thuram for 19 million euros, but the latter's agent denied such reports and claimed that the Frenchman could still end up in the London team, Arsenal, coached by Thuram's compatriot, A. Wenger.
Meanwhile, Real is trying to acquire forward Ruud van Nistelrooy, but their first offer to the Man Utd club was rejected.
