UEFA Champions League winners announced on Thursday evening that they have acquired two stars from Turin embroiled in a corruption scandal: Italian defender and Frenchman Lilian Thuram. Although the transfer fee was not officially disclosed, it is believed that the Italian club received around 19 million euros for the two players.
Both players, who recently fought on opposite sides in the World Cup final in Germany, have been included in the symbolic best team of the tournament.
29-year-old Italian national team member G. Zambrotta signed a four-year contract with the Spanish champions, with Juventus receiving around 14 million euros for him. Meanwhile, 34-year-old L. Thuram, for whom "Barca" paid around 5 million euros, signed a two-year contract.
These players became the second and third summer acquisitions for "Barca". Earlier, the Catalan superclub acquired Icelandic national team striker Eidur Gudjohnsen from London's "Chelsea".
After "Juventus" was "relegated" to "Serie B" due to their involvement in the match-fixing scandal, four players have already moved to Spain - on Wednesday, defender Fabio Cannavaro and midfielder Emerson transferred to Madrid's "Real".
