One of Portugal's national team and safe Simao's main club will most likely not play in his homeland next season - the leaders of the club, who secured third place in the country's championship, hinted that the footballer will leave for one of the foreign teams.
The 26-year-old footballer did not play in a friendly match against "Bordeaux" in preparation for the new season, and club president Luis Felipe Vieira then stated that this decision was not made without a serious reason.
"Simao's absence from the field has an explanation," said L.F. Vieira. "The reason will be clear in a few days."
He has been courted by several teams for some time now, but so far none of these teams have been successful in successfully concluding negotiations with "Benfica." However, the English and Spanish are now considered the most realistic contenders to finally crown their long-term efforts and acquire Simao.
"Simao did not play by the club's orders," confirmed coach Fernando Santos.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese media is already reporting that in the Lisbon team, Simao could replace one of the leaders, Ukrainian Maxim Kalinichenko.
