Italian football is once again engulfed in controversy - the country's organized crime unit is investigating suspected links between gambling and betting companies and the world of organized crime, or the mafia.

Police are investigating claims that massive relationships were established in betting companies in the "Serie-A", "Serie-B" and "Serie-C" leagues, and matches could have been fixed.

The team currently playing in "Serie-A" is being questioned by the organized crime investigations unit in Naples. It is alleged that the team may be involved in these matters. In this investigation, three players from this club are mentioned.

This scandal also involves another 10 clubs - ,, "Piacenza", "Ascoli", "Lumezzane", "Sassari", "Taranto", "Catanzaro", "Crotone" and "Fermana". Besides these clubs and betting offices, some businessmen are also mentioned in the investigation.

The "Sienos" club officially stated that they are victims in this whole story, but they suspended two of their players - and .

"We are very calm about this situation," says the team's general director Walter Scapigliati. "This is because in this case we are the victims."

Some games of this season may have been influenced in advance by certain footballers. A series of highly suspicious online bets, which are prohibited by law in Italy, were identified along with manipulations in regular betting offices.

"Piacenza" and "Ascoli" deny that they are being investigated by the police and that they are generally involved in the investigation.
