One of the most famous attackers in the history of the USA, Brian McBride, announced that he is retiring from the national team.
"I will truly miss being part of the team," said the 34-year-old Fulham player. "I would like to thank the USA soccer fans for their enthusiasm and support. Without the encouragement of the fans and their warm words, I wouldn't be where I am today."
B. McBride participated in three World Cups (1998, 2002, and 2006) and overall, wearing the USA jersey, he appeared in 95 matches, scoring 35 goals. With these goals, the player ranked second in the list of the most productive footballers in the history of the national team.
Former national team coach Bruce Arena, who recently left his position after an unsuccessful World Cup when the US Soccer Federation decided not to offer him a new contract, thanked B. McBride for his contribution to the team.
"While coaching the national team, it was an honor for me to have such a player as Brian in the core of the team," said B. Arena. "With his ability to score goals, excellent play with his head, and intelligence to control the ball from both sides, he was exceptional among all the other players who wore the national team jersey. Personally, I would like to thank him for everything he has done for our team and wish him and his family all the best in the future."
