The final tournament in Poland started with group matches, with the top two teams advancing to the semifinals. Scotland defeated the Czech Republic with a goal from Calum Elliot of Hearts, while Spain thrashed Austria 5-0. The two finalists had already met in the group stage, with Spain celebrating an easy 4-0 victory. However, in the match for the title, the Spaniards had to work much harder.
Scotland had the first chance to score, but their shot was saved by goalkeeper Antonio Adán. Later, Spain took control and pressed their opponents. However, a long-range shot from Antonio Barragán was off target, Andrew McNeil saved Diego Capel's attempt, while Mario Suarez and Antonio Calvo lacked precision in their shots.
At the beginning of the second half, Spain finally broke through Scotland's defense. Alberto Bueno played a one-two with M. Suarez and calmly put the ball past the goalkeeper from the edge of the box. Later, a header from defender Gerard Piqué hit the crossbar, and in the 71st minute, Bueno scored his second goal after an assist from Suarez.
Scotland did not give up, and after several attempts, Graham Dorrans scored a goal three minutes before the end of the match. However, it was only a consolation goal, as Spain held on for the remaining part of the match and became champions of the continent in their age group.
