London captain Ledley King will have to miss the beginning of the English Premier League season as he has been ruled out for approximately two months due to a knee injury sustained in training.
The first X-ray showed that the 25-year-old England defender will not be able to participate in matches at least until September.
"Ledley is suffering from cartilage problems and we won't see him on the field for six to eight weeks," said head coach Martin Jol on the club's website.
The foot injury he suffered also prevented him from participating in the World Cup, and after recovering from that, he was supposed to play in a friendly match against Inter Milan on Saturday, but he got injured again during training.
King will also miss England's friendly match against Greece on September 16 at Old Trafford, and it is believed he may not recover in time for the start of the European qualifying cycle matches against Andorra and Macedonia in early September.
The player's last official appearance in a Tottenham jersey was on April 15 in a match against Everton.
