Season in the Scottish "Premier" league started with a victory for Glasgow Rangers, led by coach Paul Le Guen, who won away against Motherwell, joining the four teams already with three points.

1 - 2
8' [0 - 1] Libor Sionko
52' [1 - 1] Phil O'Donnell
65' [1 - 2] Dado Prso

Both teams started the match without caution, with the home team attacking first. However, the Rangers midfielder Thomas Buffel missed two opportunities to score, and in the 8th minute, Libor Sionko's attempt was deflected by the goalkeeper, but the ball bounced off the debutant from the Czech Republic and entered the net.

Later on, the visitors nearly doubled their lead on several occasions, but after the break, Motherwell equalized when Ross McCormack found Phil O'Donnell in the penalty area with a precise pass, and although the goalkeeper Lionel Letizi saved his initial shot, the home team's midfielder still managed to score with a rebound.

However, the draw didn't last long, as in the 65th minute, Dado Prso, taking over the captain's armband from the injured Barry Ferguson, headed in a corner kick from long range to put Rangers back in front. The Croatian striker almost scored again soon after, but this time Motherwell's goalkeeper Graeme Smith redirected the ball onto the post.

As the match neared its end, Scott McDonald could have salvaged a draw for the hosts, but he missed his shot, and Rangers, who had an unsuccessful season last year, secured their first victory in official matches under the guidance of French strategist P. Le Guen. The next round of the Scottish championship will take place in a week.
