At La Coruna headquarters - after very poor - quite not bad news. Recently, the club was shaken by the news that Juan Valeron, due to injury, dropped out of the lineup for four months, but former Spanish national team striker Diego Tristan has now confirmed that he has rejected offers from foreign clubs and will stay at Deportivo and fight for a place in the main squad.
The Spanish striker, who scored many goals, did not make it into the Deportivo main squad and since then the player has been convinced that he will continue his career elsewhere. Scottish champions Celtic fought for the right to acquire this striker against two Portuguese giants, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon, but now the 30-year-old striker has stated that moving abroad at this stage of his career did not appeal to him.
Diego Tristan hopes to regain the trust of Deportivo coach Joaquin Caparros, as the latter considered the striker not meeting the team's requirements.
"I don't understand why I didn't have any offers from Spanish clubs," said Tristan. - "But now I have the opportunity to earn the right to play again in the main squad. From today, that is my goal. In fact, playing for a foreign club was not very attractive to me."
Last season, Deportivo finished 8th in the Spanish championship and for several years in a row failed to qualify for European cup competitions.
