Former Brazilian national team defender Roberto Carlos announced that he wants to stay at the Madrid club despite reports from the Spanish newspaper "Marca" that he was ready to leave the "royal" club and chose the Turks.
At the beginning of this summer, the 32-year-old player was in talks with English champions Chelsea, but he received a lucrative offer from Istanbul's Fenerbahce team and it seemed like he would move to Turkey. However, after a conversation with the new Real coach Fabio Capello, the man who signed him for Real in the summer of 1996, he decided to stay in the Spanish capital.
"I want to continue playing for Madrid's Real team. I say this loud and clear. I am convinced, I want to stay in this club and team where I have spent the last 10 years. It's true that they (Fenerbahce) have been calling me for a long time. They wanted me to wear their team's jerseys and told me: 'Come to us.' They didn't bother me by saying this every day, but now I believe that I need to continue my career in Madrid," the player told the newspaper "AS".
"Since I returned from vacation, I have felt very good and I am currently working at an excellent level. Coach Fabio Capello has restored my strength and I feel much happier. We had a quite long conversation. We talked about everything. I'm not leaving the team because of those talks. He said that he trusts me, wants me to stay and expects a lot from me. We were completely open with each other. It was a very positive conversation between two people," said the Brazilian.
When it seemed that R. Carlos would leave the team, Real was linked with Arsenal's defender Ashley Cole, but now it seems impossible, as the 33-year-old star will continue his career at one of the world's most famous clubs.
