This summer, the target Marcos Senna stubbornly claims that he is happy playing matches and being part of the team.
The 30-year-old midfielder was linked with a move to Manchester United for 4 million pounds (6 million euros) as the Red Devils' coach Sir Alex Ferguson was looking for a replacement for the legendary Roy Keane who left the team last November.
However, Senna's chances of moving to England diminished greatly after Manchester United signed England's national team midfielder Michael Carrick, who plays in the same position as the Villarreal star.
"I know that clubs are now discussing my situation and I hope everything will be clear soon. I know what my future will be," Senna told the Villarreal website. "Villarreal opened the doors for me and I am very happy to defend the honor of this team."
"Our team has been greatly strengthened with the signings of Leandro Somoza, Cani, and Robert Pires. We now have a better midfield line," added the qualified defensive midfielder born in Brazil. "I have always said that I want to win some trophies with this club, and this year is a great opportunity to achieve that."
"Nothing has been confirmed yet," a Villarreal spokesperson told the press on Monday. "It's all just rumors. Marcos Senna is currently training with Villarreal. That's all I can say."
The Yellow Submarine would like to receive 10 million pounds (15 million euros) for the player, but he still has a one-year contract with the club. Manchester United wants to pay around 3 million pounds (4.5 million euros) for the midfielder.
Last year, Senna helped Villarreal qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club's history and reach the semifinals, where they lost to Arsenal. In the Spanish championship, Villarreal finished in 7th place and qualified for the Intertoto Cup, where they were surprisingly defeated by Maribor and were eliminated from further competition.
