Former England national team captain David Beckham hopes to get rid of the injury problems he has experienced and, after taking over the national team's reins from Steve McClaren, compete for a spot in the main team lineup.

The 31-year-old D. Beckham suffered an Achilles tendon injury in the quarterfinals of the World Cup against Portugal, which England lost after a penalty shootout. The defender will now have to make an effort to recover by August 16th, in order to play a friendly match against Greece at full strength.

The player also hopes to play for the "Real" Madrid team, which will soon travel to the United States to play friendly matches before the start of the Spanish league.

"We have to wait and see. I only participated in Sunday's training and didn't feel any pain," said the world's most famous footballer.

The defender announced his resignation from the position of England captain after the unsuccessful World Cup, but did not withdraw from the national team and wants to reach 100 matches played in the national team jersey.

It was thought that the player would not be able to play for about six weeks, and although D. Beckham returned to training two weeks early, he suffered a light injury while running.

Real Madrid doctor Juan Carlos Hernandez said that an x-ray was performed on the player, which showed that the treatment would not be long, and D. Beckham, who has represented the national team 94 times, should likely participate in the team's preseason tournament in the USA next week.

D. Beckham, who hopes to impress the new team coach Fabio Capello, said: "I hope to recover and be ready to play in the USA. I will have to take it easy because I want to fully recover and be ready for the start of the season, which is very important. Of course, I want to improve my physical condition, so it's important to play in every friendly match."

The Spanish giant Real Madrid will travel to the USA, where they will play friendly matches on August 9th and 12th. The Spanish league is set to start on September 10th, and Real will begin the season with an away match against Levante in Valencia.
