"In the team - good news. Former Netherlands national team defender Edgar Davids promised to tie his future with his current club. The 33-year-old player still has a valid one-year contract, but all summer he was linked with a move to his native Amsterdam "Ajax" club.

"Spurs" head coach Martin Jol confirmed that the Dutchman rejected all possibilities to return home: ""Ajax" wants him, but he wants to stay in our club. He wants to continue representing "Spurs", so there are no problems, besides, he has a mindset that fits the team very well."

The coach is convinced that the veteran defender still plays a key role in the "White Hart Lane" team.

"Tottenham" coach was also pleased that in the friendly match against "Fisher Athletic", defender Anthony Gardner, who had trained little due to an ankle injury, could already play.

"I am pleased that my legs are healthy and my game rhythm has returned," said the defender after the friendly match, in which he played for 73 minutes. "It's never good to get injured before the season, although I think it's better to get injured now than at the start of the season. Before the start of the season, I need to improve my fitness once again. At the moment, I feel good, I have no problems, and I hope to get back on the field in other friendly matches."

"Tottenham" team strengthened this summer as the squad was joined by Ivory Coast defender Didier Zokora, striker Dimitar Berbatov. However, not long ago, one of the team's leaders from the previous season - 25-year-old defender Michael Carrick - left the team, who will defend the honor of the "Man Utd" club next season."
