The star of the French national team, Franck Ribery, who promised earlier this week to tie his future to the club and represent it for another four years, now says he wants to leave this team and is aiming for a move elsewhere.
The 23-year-old player, who has been linked with the French champions, London and, according to one French channel, said: "My desire is to leave Marseille. I want to play in the UEFA Champions League."
"Marseille knows where I want to go, and the club I want to move to also knows it," F. Ribery said mysteriously. "I have already made my choice and I will definitely not go back. Now both clubs just need to agree with each other."
"We completely disagree with the method used by F. Ribery," said Marseille's president Pape Diouf in a statement on the club's website. "A improved contract was signed in March and he is still a member of Marseille. Both parties must feel responsible, so he will not be able to sign a contract with another team without our permission."
Ribery was part of the French national team that participated in the World Cup, was one of its leaders and helped it reach the final, where they lost to the Italian national team after a penalty shootout.
On Friday, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed that his team still wants to buy the talented 23-year-old forward.
"He has always been our priority, and everyone here wants him to join Lyon," J. M. Aulas said on Canal Plus.
