Klaipeda is left without a head coach. On Thursday, after the evening training session, the team's strategist Sergej Savčenkov unexpectedly resigned. The 51-year-old football specialist from Russia has been coaching "Atlantas" since February 3, 2006.
Savčenkov was not satisfied with recent changes in the team. "Atlantas" lost several players, including promising twenty-year-olds Andrius Bartkus and Kazimieras Gnedojus who moved to "Kaunas", defender from Slovenia Almir Sulejmanovičius who transferred to Ukraine, and forward Valdas Trakys - to Kazakhstan. The coach stated that he does not see a future with the current players.
"Atlantas" President Vacys Lekevičius told the newspaper "Klaipeda" that the Russian coach most likely cracked under the pressure of competing for a top place: "Any coach can go through the first two rounds, but when the most important battles begin - they crack."
On Friday, during training, "Atlantas" footballers were led by V.Lekevičius and Rimantas Žvingilas.
