After the devastating failure in the Russian "Premier" league with a result of 3-0 away against "Torpedo" from Moscow on Friday, the head coach of the team, former Russian national team coach Yuri Semin, resigned from his duties. His resignation statement was officially accepted by the Russian club on Sunday.

J. Semin arrived at "Dynamo" last November, at the end of the season, but he failed to turn the team's fortunes around. Last season, the club invested heavily in players and acquired a number of Portuguese players, including national team players Costinha and Maniche, but they did not fit in and after changing coaches several times, "Dynamo" remained in eighth place.

Just a day after stepping down from the post of Russian national team coach, J. Semin signed a three-year contract with "Dynamo" nine months ago, and it was expected that the experienced coach would be able to revive the club. However, this year everything took a turn for the worse and halfway through the season "Dynamo" is still fighting for survival - the loss to "Torpedo" meant that the capital club has gathered only 10 points from 15 matches and is in second to last place.

At 59 years old, J. Semin is one of the most famous coaches in Russian football - he managed to win the country's championship twice with Moscow's "Lokomotiv" and clinch the Russian Cup four times. On the other hand, "Dynamo", which has the disqualified Sergei Ovchinnikov guarding its gates in recent matches, replaced by Zydrunas Karcemarskas, faces its first relegation from the top league after six coach changes in the past couple of years.
